One of our local nightclubs built up a really bad reputation for that on social media. People were even referring to it on FaceBook not by it’s official name but by “stickyfloor” or worse.

I was at the time area manager of another cleaning company and went to see the night club owners to talk about their problem. The owner was absolutely fed up with the problem they had to “steam clean” the carpet every week. The wear and tear on the carpet was starting to really show.

I spent some time with him and carried out a few tests. Took me all of ten minutes before I really shocked him.

I simply said, “You don’t have a sticky carpet problem”.

“Are you stupid? Just look at your own shoes and tell me that carpet is not sticky.”

I bent over and putting my hands on the carpet and said “Can you feel any stickiness here? Let’s go around the room together and you tell me where it is sticky.”

He was absolutely astounded. He just could not feel any sticky floor carpet anywhere in the room. Yet his feet were still sticking to the floor. He was also angry by the time he had finished his hand-test. The night club had been paying around £150 every week on carpet shampooing over and above their normal cleaning bill. I then took him to the club stair ways and showed him what his real problem was.

His customers and bar staff were walking downstairs across spilt beer on a stone floor. These alcoholic drinks were then sticking to their shoes and when they reached the upstairs carpet the soles were sticky. I suggested a more absorbent entry mat at the top of the stairs before entry into the upstairs bars. He agreed we purchase a 12 foot entrance mat and within a few days the problem was solved. The mat needed to be around that length to ensure that each foot touched the new mat 2-3 times to be sure all the alcohol was removed.

 We also suggested a different cleaning system for the alcohol stairways. Two simple changes cut his night club cleaning bill by over £600 a month. Not only saving money but getting a better result.

The cleaning company he had been using were dealing with the symptom not the problem. It was costing him £600 a month to get rid of a sticky carpet problem that did not really exist.

Our cleaning service  company took over the contract cleaning of both the pub downstairs and the upstairs night club. A couple of other  night club venues who were part of the same chain were also included for good measure.

Customers noticed the difference within a few days. Unfortunately however the “Sticky Floor” reputation was to hang around a lot longer.
